Blog Catch Up- July through October

Once again, I have been a little MIA from the blog world.  I started grad school in September and so most of my extra attention has been focused on making it through my first semester!  Cade turns 2 this week and we had his party yesterday so I want to get that post written and try to be better about blogging at least once a month!

This post is going to be a huge picture dump and VERY long so I apologize now.  I mainly want it for my own reference and to show Cade later in life.  I will go back and add a little narration to each month soon but at least wanted to get the pictures posted.

Swim Lessons

We put Cade in swim lessons at the YWCA this summer.  I don't really think that he learned much in the way of technique during the lessons but he seemed to have fun and I know that the exposure to the water was good.  Cade was the youngest in his class at 20 months old.  (Most of the other kids were already 2.)  It was really amazing to see the difference in the age between Cade and the others and how much more they all understood and were able to comprehend and do.

Gregg took him most of the time since they are home together during the day.  I did get to go watch one day and then take him a couple of times.  I loved the classes at the Y and think that they do a great job in their beginner class.

I am already looking forward to next summer and seeing how much better overall Cade will be!

4th of July

Gregg had to work again this year on the 4th of July so Cade and I made a trip to the Fire Station to see him.  I decided that since the day fell in the middle of the week this year and since Cade is really too young to enjoy the firecrackers that we would go for the afternoon and to have supper but that we would head home before the fireworks actually started.

Waiting on Daddy to get to the station

Yummy fruit!

cute firecracker desserts I made from a recipe on the back of the Vanilla Wafers box

We had such a great time at the Fire Station with Gregg and the other guys.  Cade always loves getting to go see Daddy at work and playing with all the big trucks!

June Lubbock Trip

Cade and I made a quick trip to Lubbock in June in order to attend my cousin Steve's funeral.  Steve was tragically killed in a farming accident in Lubbock.

This was my first time to take a solo airplane trip with Cade and he did great!  Getting through security with the car seat wasn't too fun but the rest was pretty smooth sailing.  Cade even got a TSA badge to wear for being so good!

The funeral service was held at First United Methodist Church in downtown Lubbock.  It was packed with friends and fellow farmers and was a very beautiful celebration of Steve's life.  After the service we went to the cemetery and then to the Shallowater Community Center to have lunch with the family.  I got to see so many extended family members while there which was such a blessing in the midst f the tragedy.

Saturday morning we got up and went to visit my brother Seth out at the farm.  Seth was plowing the cotton fields and took Cade on his first tractor ride!  Cade was a little terrified at first but ended up having lots of fun riding with his Uncle Sepee!

We made a trip to the Legacy Play Village while in town.  I had never been to this park before and was very impressed by it.  It has a huge wooden playground with a 3 or 4 story tall fort thing for kids to climb in.  Cade and I made several trips up so that he could go down the slide.

We also went to see Gregg's family a couple of times while we were in town.  We were able to hang out at Cody and Misti's house while Cade and Landry played and had lots of fun together.

While we would have rather avoided this impromptu visit we sure did have lots of fun on our trip!  We always love getting to see family and especially those extended family members that we don't see near enough.  Please continue to keep Steve's wife, Patti and their 2 boys in your prayers.

Fun Family Visit!

My parents, brother Seth and his girlfriend Julie and one of her friends, Candace, all came to town in June to visit.  We rented hotel rooms for the weekend so that we could all fully enjoy the weekend and all the fun we had planned!

We started the weekend out by going to the Rangers game!  We had such a great time and really enjoyed the chance to all be together.

Seth, Julie and Candace decided to tackle the infamous new hotdog at the ballpark called the Boomstick (a 2 foot long fully loaded hotdog).  The thing was MASSIVE!

The BOOMSTICK!

They ate it all!

Sausage Sundae (Greg and I's meal)

Sunday morning we got up and decided to let Cade play in the pool before we headed out.  Gregg was a good sport and got in with him to let him splash around .

Practicing our swim lessons

After that we went shopping.  We have all been begging my Dad to buy a pair of shorts since he normally always wears jeans and boots.  We found some and when he came out of the dressing room he had out his boots back on and looked pretty ridiculous!

After shopping we went to Papadeaux's for lunch to celebrate Father's Day.  I have many things in my life to be greatful for and I feel that two of the biggest are my own Father and my hubby.  My father set a great example for me and my brother as to what a father is.  He loved us unconditionally and provided a great life for us.  Most importantly to me though he loved and still does very much love my Mother.  Now that I am a parent I realize just how great of a man he is.  Gregg is a wonderful husband and an ever better Father.  His love for Cade radiates from him.  I love watching thim together and feel blessed to have him as my life partner and the father to my children!
